Ceramic pots — 2014 to present
“Who the Pot?” is the umbrella title for my work about the form and material of the ceramic pot. Activities have included: making hand-built pots, collecting poetry about pottery, visiting museum pottery collections, creating custom displays for pots, reflecting and meditating in the presence of pots, and studying the histories of the medium. My pots were smoke-fired using typical combustible materials (some of these have a conceptual dimension, such as the use of Ruffles All Dressed potato chips, or beaver-made wood chips, connecting this project with other strands of my practice). By asking myself, “Who is the Potter, pray, and who the Pot?*, the form, and the process of making, a pot become a metaphor for the relationship between my inner and outer worlds.
